ANO (pronunciation aεno)

ANO is a research foundation and platform for collaborations, publications, films, exhibitions and events.

ANO is a studio set up by writer, art historian, and filmmaker Nana Oforiatta Ayim. Through publications, research and films, it aims to challenge current historiographies, as well as transform social contexts.

1. From εno (grandmother) in akan, in which abrewa, the old woman, is the first human being and origin of all things.
2. From -ano, the suffix denoting belonging in esperanto, that idealised of all languages.
3. From ANO, short for A.N. Other, a placeholder or pseudonym for the unknown, or anonymous. For the validity of knowledge deemed absent or silent.

Its interests are in the ways histories are told and organised; as well as in different ways of being, that like polyrhythms exist in the same space without cancelling each other out, and in the silences that hold them together.
